How it works

1

Type an English sentence

Whatever you actually want to say in Japanese: at a konbini, on the train, in your first conversation exchange. Practice the lines you'll really use.

2

Pick a JLPT level

N5 through N1. Kanji frequency, grammar, and politeness register match the level: N5 stays in です/ます with common kanji; N1 uses keigo, idiom, and the full kanji range.

3

Loop. Shadow. Self-correct.

Hit play. The audio loops with the silence gap you set. Say the sentence in the gap, then hear the original again. Slow it down if you need to. Build it into your mouth.

Why shadowing works for Japanese

Japanese sentence structure flips a lot of what English speakers default to: the verb is at the end, particles do the heavy lifting, and politeness register changes verb endings rather than vocabulary. Reading the rules won't get you there fast. The rhythm has to land in your mouth.

Shadowing a JLPT-graded sentence on loop, with the silence gap set so you can echo it cleanly before the next play, builds the cadence in. That's the path to sounding fluent, not just being grammatically correct.
